Kumang I.

Sarawak Folklore Series (2013).

This character series is one of my earliest works when I was in Sarawak. At that time, Sarawak Folklore is new to me, and I find the characters are unique and interesting, hence why I decided to illustrate these characters based on my readings (mostly from Heidi Munan's books).

Here is Kumang, one of the most well-known legends in Iban folktales. She is described as the most beautiful of all Iban females, graceful, and a very skilled Pua weaver. Together with her husband Keling, they are role models to the Iban people in many generations.

Bujang Senang Malaysian Folklore Character Design

Sarawak Folklore (2013).

'Bujang Senang'.

According to the legend, Bujang Senang is a giant crocodile that live and terroring people at the Batang Lupar River. It was said that the crocodile used to be an invincible Iban warrior named Simalungun. After been defeated in a very fierce battle, he has been cursed by the river spirit to become a giant crocodile. Since then he became a terror to the people living in the area.

Orang Bunian

#inktober2017day25 :Trail.

To this day there are myth still existed among Malays about 'Orang Bunian' or unseen people. Sometimes they are been blamed when children or someone gets lost in the wilderness. In popuĺar stories, bunian will persuade the lost person to follow them through mysterious trail that lead to their world. Some people have live or even married with them.

Orang bunian are supernatural beings in Malay folklore, invisible to most humans except those with spiritual sight. Their appearance is nearly identical to humans dressed in ancient Southeast Asian style. They are sometimes said to lack a philtrum, but are always extremely beautiful. -wiki
